Buyer – Electronics / Telecoms | Cambridgeshire | Office-Based with Some Travel

You’ll be responsible for building and managing a high-performing, cost-effective supply chain, supporting both existing product lines and new product developments. The successful candidate will bring strong supplier management skills, attention to detail, and a passion for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage relationships with key international suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- Schedule materials and ensure on-time delivery to support customer demand.
- Support the Senior Buyer in developing and implementing purchasing strategy.
- Source components and manage the onboarding of new suppliers.
- Oversee supplier engagement during new product introduction (NPI) phases.
- Identify and resolve issues related to component obsolescence.
- Analyse and respond to commodity market movements.
- Negotiate contracts and drive cost reductions across supplier accounts.
- Develop the supply base with a focus on total cost of acquisition.
- Monitor supplier performance and drive quality improvement initiatives.
- Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
- Collaborative, team-first approach with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- High levels of self-motivation and ownership of outcomes.
- Willingness to travel internationally (clean driving licence required; expenses covered).
- Level 3 CIPS Certificate (or working towards it).
- Supply chain experience within the electronics or telecoms industries.
- Hands-on experience managing offshore/contract manufacturers.
- Exposure to full product development lifecycle, from concept to volume production.
- Confidence and credibility when interacting with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and act decisively under pressure.
- Based near Cambridge (office-based role with occasional international travel).
- Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
