The Role

Working as the in-house expert on satellite communications you will lead the system engineering consultancy services from Cambridge.  Consulting clients with regards to cost, risk, time and project deliverables are a big part of this role and previous experience having done this is expected. You won’t be working on your own though, as you’d collaborate with the team leaders and project managers to co-lead the system engineering activities.

Sounds interesting, what would my main responsibilities be?

Mainly, being the go-to person for system engineering design and making sure that the associated risks are confirmed and managed correctly. Leading the identification process of risks through planning, monitoring, and reviewing processes. Adhering to the respective engineering standards is also part of the role.

In terms of skills and experience, what do I need to get the job?

Proven experience having worked in comms or wireless defence systems in the past is crucial to the role for obvious reasons! System Engineering knowledge is expected and an in-depth understanding of the CADMID life cycle process would also be desired. Great planning and program management experience alongside strong interpersonal skills are very important, as you will be consulting both internal and external engineers on a regular basis. A proven ability to lead design reviews is also crucial to this role.

Okay I have those skills, is there anything else that is essential to being successful in this role?

I’m glad you asked! Having current security clearance or the ability to obtain level 2 SC will be needed for the role. Project Management and experience working on defence contracts including bid process would put you at the top of the list.
