Job Description

PCB Design Engineer

Permanent Position

£40,000 - £50,000

Your new Organisation

This is the leading provider of USB graphics and virtual reality technology, with more than 300 employees in Cambridge, with a goal to push even further. To put it simply, these guys partner with high profile, hi-tech companies to develop chips and software that work on the movement of pixels. They have recently moved into a massive, and modern set of new offices to allow for their expansion and have committed a lot of revenue to research and development. In terms of being agile, these guys set the tone. They operate a flat structure across the business, all voices are heard, hot desking is prominent, but most importantly ideas are implemented, and timelines are set and met.

The role

Friendly, sociable and collaborative are words that are often thrown around job adverts, but in this instance, it’s true. You’ll work in unison with the hardware team, taking responsibility for the layout of complex multilayer PCB Designs from initial concept and placement through to production ready designs. This could involve working with design teams on creating chips for new VR technology, or possibly AI technology, as the two most prominent areas of focus for these teams.

What you’ll get in return

You’ll jump straight into some brand new, modern beautiful offices, right here on the Science Park, with plenty of parking, and flexi hour working arrangements. You’ll be a part of a collaborative work force who are working on new, emerging areas of tech, such as VR & AI, as opposed to legacy tech. You’ll have a free food & drinks provided on site, companywide bonuses up to 10% of your salary, free health insurance, free health care, life assurance, 25 days annual leave (not including bank holidays) and a genuinely competitive salary to boot.

Technical Requirements

  • Excellent working knowledge of Altium Designer / Nexus
  • Ability to work closely and in cooperation with hardware engineers
  • Switch-mode power supply layout and controlled impedance routing
  • Experience of high-speed digital interfaces (e.g. DDR, USB, HDMI, DisplayPort)
  • Knowledge of constraint-based routing
  • Familiar with PCB EMC techniques (filters, planes, coupling and shielding)
  • Design experience of conventional and HDI PCB stack-ups
  • Familiarity of IPC standards and method of working
