Financial Controller | Cambridgeshire - Onsite | Global Travel Required| £60k -£70k

Reporting to the CEO, this role owns day-to-day finance operations, financial planning, and the development of scalable systems and processes. You’ll work closely with scientists, engineers, and senior leadership to ensure accurate reporting, strong cash management, and well-run financial operations in a fast-growing environment.

What you’ll do
 📘 Maintain accurate financial records in Xero
 📩 Manage AP/AR, invoicing, and payment cycles
 📅 Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closings
 📊 Produce management accounts, cash flow reports, and 12–24 month forecasts
 📝 Prepare Board papers and support leadership with financial insights
 🤝 Coordinate with external accountants on payroll, statutory accounts, VAT, and filings
 💸 Track project and production costs with correct allocation
 🛒 Manage procurement, POs, supplier relationships, and ordering of materials/equipment
 🔎 Support budget owners across scientific and engineering teams
 ⚙️ Keep financial systems up-to-date and improve processes and workflows
 📈 Provide weekly dashboards and cash updates to the CEO
 🧭 Partner on financial strategy, cost control, and capital planning

Must Have
 🎓 Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) or strong UK accounting experience
 🧮 Strong Xero skills, including integrations and workflow automation
 📚 Solid understanding of UK GAAP and statutory compliance
 💼 Background as a Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager
 📊 Excellent Excel modelling and forecasting skills
 📁 Experience managing AP/AR, POs, suppliers, and cost tracking
 ✔️ High accuracy, strong organisation, and ability to work independently

Good to Have
 🧪 Experience in technology, biotech, manufacturing, or similar sectors
 🔧 Experience improving financial processes and implementing new tools
 🌍 Experience in USA International Codes
 🗂️ Exposure to Board-level reporting and dashboards
 🚀 Comfortable in a high-growth, fast-paced environment
 🧠 Ability to support scientists and engineers with budgets and tracking
