Senior Systems Engineer – Communications Technology

Location: Cambridgeshire (on-site with some flexibility)
Sector: Communications / Engineering
Type: Permanent

The Opportunity A leading global technology business, with decades of experience delivering advanced communications solutions, is seeking a Systems Engineer to join their product development team. This role plays a pivotal part across the full product lifecycle, from requirements capture through to verification and validation, ensuring products meet the highest standards of performance and compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to ensure product functionality and interface performance.
  • Analyse customer and technical requirements; contribute to system architecture reviews.
  • Lead system-level test, acceptance, and compliance activities.
  • Ensure projects follow structured engineering processes (V-model).
  • Support risk management processes and apply them appropriately to engineering programmes.
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to align current and future system needs.
  • Promote commonality and compatibility across systems.
  • Ensure best practice is followed in design, development, and validation.
What We’re Looking For
  • Degree (1st or 2:1) in a relevant engineering or technical discipline.
  • Extensive experience of the full product development lifecycle.
  • Strong knowledge of communications systems specification, design, or test.
  • Understanding of network technologies and system integration.
  • Electronics or RF knowledge, ideally with VHF/UHF communications systems exposure.
  • Experience in design engineering within advanced, high-reliability technical environments.
  • Familiarity with compliance, verification, and validation methodologies.
  • Awareness of cybersecurity considerations within system design.
  • Ability to decompose high-level requirements into detailed use cases and system functions.
