Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Job description

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Hybrid - Cambridgeshire
£50,000 - £60,000

Lab-on-a-chip research is an exciting and rapidly evolving field with significant implications for various scientific and medical disciplines. The core technology behind lab-on-chip is microfluidics, which involves the precise control and manipulation of fluids at the microscale. Microfluidic systems include channels, pumps, valves, and other components to manage fluid flow.

Lab-on-chip (LOC) devices are widely used in point-of-care testing, enabling rapid and accurate diagnostic tests for various conditions, including infectious diseases, cancer markers, and genetic disorders. They are particularly valuable in remote or resource-limited settings. These devices enable the study of single cells or small populations of cells in controlled environments, facilitating research in areas like cell behaviour, cancer research, and stem cell studies.

As Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will have the opportunity to contribute to new and exciting biotechnology research within the microfluidics and lab-on-chip space. You will be able to contribute to the new development and improvement of accessories and support the manufacturing process of existing products within this innovative start-up business.

You will have the chance to create new product concepts, prototypes, and test platforms for engineering and bio-assay development. You will be able to utilise your strong mechanical engineering background, creating design outputs which can be manufactured with ease, using processes such as injection moulding, CNC milling & turning, and laser cutting.

The essential skills we are looking for this role are as follows:
  • SolidWorks / PDM
  • Geometric Design & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Injection Moulding, CNC Milling & Turning, other manufacturing techniques
  • An understanding of standards such as ISO 13485, ISO 9001, and BS 8888.

This innovative start-up business are offering a salary of up to £60,000, hybrid working, an annual bonus scheme, private healthcare, and much more!
