Reliability Engineer – Communications Systems
Location: Cambridge, UK
Contract: 9-Month FTC (Potential to xxtend)
Working Arrangement: Mostly onsite
Travel: Potential travel to manufacturing site in Poland
Salary: £40-50K pro rata'd over the 9 month period
Overview We’re working with a fast-growing communications business in Cambridge that is seeking a Reliability Engineer to support critical product development and deployment activities. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in driving component- and system-level reliability improvements across complex electronic systems.
You'll work closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to ensure products meet rigorous standards in reliability, certification, and compliance, supporting both UK-based development and international manufacturing processes.

This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in driving component- and system-level reliability improvements across complex electronic systems.
You'll work closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to ensure products meet rigorous standards in reliability, certification, and compliance, supporting both UK-based development and international manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead reliability planning and testing for components and systems in accordance with standards such as JEDEC, Telcordia, MIL-STD-810, GR-63, and GR-1086
- Conduct failure analysis and fault investigation, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across design and production lines
- Oversee and influence reliability standards in design, validation, and manufacturing processes
- Support internal teams and external suppliers in meeting EMC, safety, and other compliance benchmarks
- Participate in supplier audits and collaborate with the quality team on procurement reliability
- Support certification efforts and help shape the overall approach to reliability engineering within the business
- Contribute to cross-functional project reviews and communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a reliability-focused engineering role
- Background in electronics, systems engineering, or high-reliability environments
- Familiarity with standards and processes used in military, automotive, or large-scale telecoms systems
- Experience with complex systems rather than biomedical or consumer electronics
- Strong understanding of failure analysis, root cause investigation, and corrective/preventive action
- Confident working hands-on in a manufacturing or lab environment and influencing production improvements
- Must be based in or around Cambridge, and open to occasional travel to Poland (maybe a couple of times during your contract period)
- Stage 1: Informal video or phone chat with Engineering Lead
- Stage 2: Technical presentation + 1:1 interviews with team
