The Role

  • Lead the development of manufacturing and assembly processes for small to medium volume instrument assembly – typically instruments that are electro-mechanical with software.
  • Work alongside the development team to provide design for manufacture input throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Develop assembly processes, assembly fixtures and test fixtures including the design, build and qualification on the manufacturing cell.
  • Lead Process FMEA activity deriving the critical assembly processes.
  • Training assembly operators in assembly process.
  • Work with external manufacturing companies to ensure delivery of components and sub-systems for prototype and early production builds.
  • Oversee early prototype builds through to Production Equivalent Prototypes.
  • Working closely with senior Managing Consultant’s and project teams using your experience to influence project and programme direction.

In terms of skills and experience, what do I need to get the job?

  • Proven experience driving and delivering assembly lines for small scale instrument manufacture.
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks.
  • Thorough understanding of DFM, DFA and PDFMEA methodologies including a track record of leading and facilitating.
  • Understanding of the manufacturing processes used by manufacturers upstream of the final assembly, PCBA, injection moulding, machining, metal folding etc.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of medical device development including an understand of manufacturing under an ISO 13485 quality system (applicants welcome from other industries that also follow similar quality management procedures – for example Automotive).
