Director of Software

Job description

Director of Software - Cambridge/Hybrid (£150-200k Comp)

New to the Market - SoCode are working on an exclusive basis for our IOT client in Cambridge to appoint a Director of Software. This is a newly created position, to scale the Global Software Engineering function. Working alongside the CTO, the Director of Software will have a seat on the Technology SMT.

Our client produces a marketing leading range of IOT products within a booming industry sector and has extremely strong backing in place as they look to continue their innovative product development and scale up their Global Engineering function by much as 30% in 2022.

Working on a hybrid basis (2/3 days a week) from the Cambridge Based R&D facility, the Director of Software will need to show strong proficiencies in the following areas:

Key Skillset:

People:

The Director of Software will be accountable for a headcount of approximately 50 highly capable Software Engineers. The teams are geographically dispersed across UK, EU and US so experience in managing teams remotely and in different time zones would be advantageous. The Director of Software should be a people-centric manager, ensuring people are continually developing and progressing in their careers.

Process & Best Practice:

The Director of Software will be responsible for establishing Best Practice and Processes across the Software Engineering function and working closely with stakeholders across the business. As the company scales, the formation of processes and best practice is seen as an essential characteristic.

Technology:

This is an entirely hands-off position - however previous leadership experience of multi-disciplinary Software Engineering functions is essential.  The teams are currently utilising a wide variety of technology including Front End/Back End and Cloud / Embedded Engineers, so previous experience in these technologies would be highly advantageous. There is a strong preference that the Director of Software was previously an excellent technical Software Engineer themselves to assist with credibility.

Delivery:

Working closely with the Project/Program Management function, the Director of Software should have a good appreciation of  Delivery and of Project Management.

Package / Rewards:

As a high growth SME, the UK Benefits Package is still work in progress – however the successful candidate will receive a market leading (DOE) basic salary (£120-£150k) alongside a Company Share Plan (TBC). We would expect the Total Compensation to be in the £150-200k range.
