How to improve your CV

In this ever-changing world making sure your CV is up to date and relevant is crucial. There is high competition in the job market so you need your CV to stand out from the crowd and not keeping your CV up to date could land you in the “no, thanks pile”. Luckily, there are some simple changes you can make to your CV to help make sure it stands out from the rest.

We’ve all heard that first impressions matter and the same applies to your CV, highlight your accomplishments, relevant experience, and unique skills to a prospective employer. We’ve put together 5 key things to leave off your CV or at least shorten:

A career objective

Instead, why not write a short summary detailed why you are a good fit for the role, this shows you are dedicated to the role you are applying for.

Unrelated awards, hobbies, and interests

Although this can be controversial as there are also pros to this as it shows the human side to your CV.

Too much formatting

Imagine reading your CV for the first time, you want it to be clear and simple – easy to read.

Task lists

Employers want to know what you’ve done, how, the results, any problems you’ve faced and the solutions.

References available on request

Instead include your favourite LinkedIn recommendation, as most companies will ask for references if they need them.
