Role: TX RF Engineer (Contract)

Length: 6 Months

Location: Cambridge

Rate: 55ph Outside IR35

 

The Company:

A group that works in the design manufacturing and supply of digital communication products for mission critical communication. They’re based a short distance for Cambridge North and are currently looking for a Principal Acoustic Engineer to join their team. The work they provide is largely within the public services domain, with the tech they work on, being relied on in life or death scenarios. The work environment can be full on, with an expectation of delivery, though the management team do as much to relieve some of that pressure by allowing half days on Friday’s and working in spacious and modern working environments.

 

The Role:

The candidate will have technical responsibility for the complete TX subsystem. The right candidate will have a strong background in the specification, design and test of transmitter subsystems, especially discrete PAs.

 * Technical design and specification of discrete linear RF PA solutions in the 100MHz-1GHz range

 * High efficiency compact handheld battery based RF PAs ≤5W

 * Technical requirements analysis

 * Complete transmitter  chain specification, design and implementation

 * Integration of PA and transmitter into radio solution (software, mechanical, power supply).

 * PA ruggedness design

 * Component specification and sourcing

 * Block, subsystem and product integration testing

 * Resolution of design and integration issues.

 * Type approval support

 * Support design, testing and troubleshooting in other areas of the product as appropriate

 * Technical support to end customers and subcontract manufacturers.

 * Progress reporting.           

 

Essential Skills:

 * Discrete linear PA design

 * Transmitter chain design

 * Product integration

 * RF design

 * Handset design

 * RF simulation tools (e.g. Genesys, ADS, Microwave Office)

 * Portable product design

 * RF simulation tools (e.g. Microwave Offfice, ADS) for linear and non-linear simulation

 

Desirable Skills

Ideally the applicant will have experience in one or more of the following technology areas:

 * TETRA

 * Cartesian loop transmitter design

 * ADS simulation

 * Design for ESD protection.

 * Design for EMC.
