Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Job description

Why this consultancy? You’ve got a pick of the bunch when it comes to Cambridge-based tech consultancies. All of which offer variety in the day-to-day, never working on the same project for too long. They all offer the opportunity to keep your skillset broad, and you'll never have to pigeonhole yourself into one area. This consultancy, however, is purely focused on tech for good. They’re a product design, engineering, and development specialist focusing on physical products that make a positive difference in how people live. In addition, they’re a family-friendly business. As opposed to getting involved with your national tech consultancies, potentially placing yourself as another cog in the wheel, you’ll be allowed to contribute to projects on a much larger scale. For example, those who show excellent engineering capabilities will have genuine career progression toward becoming a director in the business.

This consultancy has been profitable for the last 20 years, and more recently has been giving an average of 20% bonuses to the entire company, and most recently awarding 24% bonuses to all staff. In addition, you’ll get private healthcare through BUPA, a cycle to work scheme, a company pension up to 14%, enhanced sick leave, and death in service. Whilst there are deadlines, and important projects to deliver, this is a company that cares for its people, and as such give you the autonomy to manage your own time through flexible working arrangements (you come and go as necessary) and the ability to work from home.

Now, the role. This is an opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will be hands-on but also interact with customers. As an experienced mechanical engineer, you will have demonstrated exceptional engineering skills covering concept creation, theoretical and mathematical modelling, risk analysis, CAD development, practical modelling, testing, submission to manufacture and verification. You will need to take a logical and comprehensive approach to quantify, analyse and develop potentially complex solutions to problems whilst ensuring that the output remains feasible, practical and will therefore be made into actual devices in high and low volumes. The projects demand solutions to difficult mechanical engineering challenges on multidisciplinary projects in the medical, diagnostic, laboratory, consumer and food and drink industries
