In the Cambridge tech scene, you’ll regularly bump into budding tech start-ups. They’ll have a solid idea, perhaps some relatively ok funding, but more often than not, they’ll have a really bumpy road ahead of them, with endless risks they’ll need to overcome in order to become a successful and sustainable business. You are a person who has toyed with the idea of start-ups, you’ve perhaps already convinced yourself that the risk / reward factor is worth it, because you’re aware of the joys that come with working for a new business. What we have here, certainly isn’t a risk free start-up, however this is a group of people who have achieved PHD’s from the best University in Country within quantum technology, and have taken their expertise and turned that it into a business. They’ve gone through the initial hardships of creating a product, defining a roadmap, recruiting a team, and getting serious investment, and now they’re at the serious point of growth…. That’s where you’d be joining the business, having gone over the initial hurdle and now jumping into a business who know what they need to do, have the tools to do it, and you’ll use your expertise to get them there.

Your role will be that of the company’s top Electronics Engineer, the Principal Electronics Engineer. They’ve already started to build your team, in recruiting a Junior Electronics Engineer, who will be assisting you to design, develop and implement analogue and digital electronics systems or the quantum technology systems. You have the enjoyment here of staying hands on, but having the option to have your input shape the company, and you can follow that path to stay hands on, or take the reigns for the electronics team and further build what these guys are starting.

You can lose the suit and tie, as these guys prefer a more casual approach in their dress sense. As a seriously valued & integral part of the team, you’ll have the trust of your peers to manage your own time schedules, whether that be taking a week to work fully remote, or managing your hours so you can catch some well earned rest in the morning, the choice is genuinely yours, and yes this also extends to post COVID. You’ll also receive a 5% employer matched contribution scheme, free food in the office, free confidential health & wellbeing support, company events & other benefits, including a salary of up to £65,000 (plus the potential of shares).

As ever, it’s important to review the technical requirements, to make sure you’d be relatively comfortable in the day to day:

A degree in a numerate subject such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Maths.

Analogue circuit design

Spice Simulation

Experience using PCB layout & fabrication

Thermo-electric coolers

Laser drivers

Digital circuit design

FPGA

High speed interfaces including PCIe & ethernet

Software engineering, C/C++, C#, Python and LabView
