RF Test Engineer

Job description

I’m working with a semiconductor company in Cambridge developing next-generation RF technology for mobile and connected devices. They’re building RF solutions that simplify front-end architectures and enable global connectivity across a wide range of products.

They’re looking to bring in an RF Test Engineer to join the development team and work closely with RF and systems engineers to validate new hardware and ensure strong correlation between design and real-world performance.

The role is hands-on and focused on measurement, characterisation and test development. You’ll be responsible for building robust RF test setups, running measurements, analysing results and feeding data back into the design team to support optimisation and product development.

What you’ll be doing
  • Running RF measurements to evaluate hardware performance
  • Executing 3GPP-based RF measurements (LTE / NR) covering transmitter and receiver performance
  • Developing and maintaining repeatable RF test setups for product characterisation
  • Working closely with design and systems engineers to provide measurement feedback and support design decisions
  • Writing scripts and automation tools for test systems
  • Ensuring measurements follow RF standards and good laboratory practices
  • Supporting troubleshooting and performance investigations during development
  • Documenting results and maintaining clear test records
What they’re looking for
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or similar
  • Strong understanding of RF fundamentals (S-parameters, gain, noise figure, linearity, impedance matching)
  • Experience using RF test equipment such as VNAs, spectrum analysers and signal generators
  • Experience with cellular RF measurements (3GPP LTE / NR)
  • Ability to develop and run repeatable RF test setups
  • Some scripting experience for automation (Python or MATLAB)
  • Comfortable working with schematics and RF system diagrams
  • Practical lab experience including PCB work and hardware debugging
This role would suit someone who enjoys working closely with hardware and solving real engineering problems through measurement and data.

The company offers a competitive salary, pension, share options, private healthcare and flexible working arrangements. The team is based in Cambridge and works closely together on site.
